Commentary on the Gospel of the day by Father Giordano Favillini
Sunday 1 / 03
Matthew 17, 5
“This is my beloved Son; with him I am well pleased.”
Jesus is the most precious gift that God the Father has given us. Whoever listens to him has found the compass of existence that will guide the path of life correctly and will never be able to get lost.
Monday 2/03
Luke 6, 37
Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.
Three verbs: do not judge, do not condemn, and forgive. They point us toward three directions in our social life, and if observed, they allow us to live in justice, and with it, peace is built.
Tuesday 3/03
Matthew 23, 10
And do not be called 'guides,' for you have only one guide: Christ.
It's easier to find human guides because that way you avoid the effort of choosing, but when the guide is internal, it's Jesus, He shows us the direction to take but it's up to us to decide, He teaches us responsibility.
Wednesday 4/03
Matthew 20, 28
The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
True greatness consists in being generous, giving one's life, making one's abilities available to the common good, connecting with others, considering others not as strangers but as something that belongs to us.
Thursday 5 / 03
Luke 16, 25
“Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus his bad things. But now he is comforted in this way, while you are in torment.”
The goods not shared in earthly existence, at work in mercy, will become torments in the dimension of eternal life, because there will only be shared love.
Friday 6 / 03
Matthew 21, 42
“Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?’ This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”
God always transforms evil into good. The rejected stone is Jesus crucified. In the resurrection, he became the foundation of universal salvation.
Saturday 7 / 03
Luke 15, 1
At that time all the tax collectors and sinners came near to listen to him. But the Pharisees and scribes complained, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
The envy of those who feel they are the best always causes injustice and division in communities and families. Mercy, on the other hand, brings friendship and love everywhere.
