March 13, 2026: The Italian Church prays and fasts for peace.

The Movement too spazio + spadoni adheres to the initiative, joining its voice with that of the faithful and communities throughout Italy to ask for the gift of peace and the end of conflicts
The Italian Church has raised a strong and unanimous voice in recent days: a special Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace has been declared for Friday 13 March 2026, inviting all ecclesial communities, parishes and faithful to stop and turn their hearts towards peace in the world, especially in areas wounded by conflicts and tensions.
The initiative was born from the emergency of the current escalation of violence, particularly in the Middle East, which threatens to drag humanity towards a war of planetary proportions. For this reason, the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) has responded to the appeal of Pope Leo XIV to “stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreparable chasm” and invited the entire country to unite in a single plea to the “King of Peace”.
The day is not just a symbolic gesture but a concrete commitment: the fasting is proposed as sign of solidarity with those suffering from armed conflict, with victims, refugees, and bereaved families, and as an intense prayer for the gift of peace. Italian churches will be open for prayer and celebrations, and the Eucharistic celebration will use the formula for times of war and turmoil provided by the Roman Missal.
In many dioceses of the country, they are organizing moments of prayer and vigils: from the community Way of the Cross to moments of adoration and supplication, with the aim of making visible the presence of the Church that prays for reconciliation and dialogue.
Even the Space Movement +spadoni joins this day of prayer and fasting. For us, it is not an event to be observed from afar, but rather an invitation to respond to the urgent need for a more just and supportive world. At a time when violence damages relationships between peoples and endangers the dignity of so many of our brothers and sisters, we will unite in supplication, silence, and communion of prayer.
Living this day means remembering that peace is not an abstract idea, but a path of personal and community conversionIt is an invitation to disarm our hearts, to cultivate dialogue and justice, to be builders of peace in our daily actions.
Together with many communities, parishes and ecclesial groups throughout Italy, our voice rises in that same plea: because the gift of peace May it flourish in hearts, families, cities, and nations. And that, with the power of prayer and the sobriety of fasting, we may become living instruments of reconciliation and hope.
