The international platform is born at Borgo Laudato si' Global Alliance for concrete paths of ecological conversion
On March 9 and 10, 2026, scholars from over 30 countries gathered at the Borgo Laudato si', in the papal gardens of Castel Gandolfo near Rome to share research and good practices and give life to the “Global Alliance”a whirlpool bath, new international platform of research and action for integral ecology, promoted by Laudato si' Higher Education Center and by the 'University of Notre Dame, in order to network over sixty universities and important organizations committed to the climate crisis and sustainability.
The goal is clear: to create a shared infrastructure that connects faith, science, and social justice to care for the common home, in continuity with the teaching of Laudato si' and with the call for an “integral ecology”.
In this sense, the Global Alliance was not just a "conference," but the beginning of a stable synodal process of academic and pastoral collaboration.
The topics addressed demonstrated the depth of the proposal: not only climate change, but also climate finance, debt cancellation, neocolonialism, and unjust economic models that affect the poorest. Integral ecology, in fact, brings together environmental care, social justice, and human dignity in a single vision, recalling that "the ecological crisis is inseparable from economic inequalities".
From the first assembly were born six interdisciplinary working groups They will be responsible for developing lines of research and action in the coming years. These groups will focus on three strategic priorities:
- Eliminate barriers to access to clean water, energy and food security (Removing barriers to clean water, energy, and food security).
- Transforming economic systems towards more sustainable and fair models (Transforming economic systems toward more sustainable and just models).
- Developing good practices and tools for collective action (Developing best practices and tools for collective action).
The Cardinal Fabio Baggio, general director of the Laudato si' Higher Education Center, defined this alliance as “a sign of great hope”, underlining the shared enthusiasm of universities and research centers in jointly serving the good of humanity and the protection of creation. The president of Notre Dame, Fr. Robert A. Dowd, recalled that integral ecology recognizes the profound connection between environmental sustainability, human dignity and the flourishing of people.
For Christian communities and anyone concerned about the future of the planet, the Global Alliance thus represents a global laboratory where the spirituality of Laudato si' meets scientific research and social commitment, offering tools, networks, and a vision for a new, more sober, just, and fraternal lifestyle.
