The Dominican Missionary Sisters of Families is an institute of diocesan right.
The beginnings of the Institute date back to 1979 when two twin sisters, Emma Abuada and Lucie Ideyi, together with Sister Beatrice Mizeledi and Sister Bernadette Manbgo, nuns of the Dominican Congregation Santo Domingo de Granada, took the initiative to give life to a new experience. On April 2, 1991, Monseigneur Emile Aiti, then Bishop of Isiro-Niangara, erected the Pious Union of the Daughters of Saint Dominic as the “Congregation of the Daughters of Saint Dominic”, with its seat in Magambe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Dominican Sisters “Daughters of Saint Catherine of Siena” of Isiro-Niangara were responsible for the formation of the members of the young Congregation.
Today, since September 30, 2012, by decision of Monseigneur Julien Andavo, the Congregation is named Soeurs Dominicaines Missionnaires des Familles. From July 12 to 19, 2013, a special session held with the help of a jurist allowed the Congregation to give itself its Constitutions in an elaborated form.
Their charism is the apostolate to families through family pastoral ministry. Through formation, education in human and Christian values and the promotion of development within families. The Congregation, composed of about 30 sisters, has several communities within the Democratic Republic of the Congo and precisely in Isiro, Medje, Durba, Dingila, Dungu.
