1. Introduction: an event between memory and future

Saturday 18th April represents a moment of great significance for the community of Camaiore.
The inauguration of the historic complex of the Misericordia It marks an important milestone in the history of an institution that has been a point of reference for the area for over four centuries.
The chosen title, "Misericordia Camaiore and Lido: between past and future – 400 years of community service," perfectly captures the spirit of the initiative: preserving tradition while embracing renewal.

2. The reopening of the historic complex

The focus of the day is the reopening of the Church of Suffrage and the Works of Mercy, returned to the community after a major restoration project. Located in the heart of the historic center, just steps from the main square, the complex represents not only an architectural heritage but also a symbolic place of faith and charity.
The Church houses works of great value, including paintings by the painter Marracci, an ancient organ and a Crucifix dating back to the 14th centuryToday these elements return to dialogue with the present, inserted into a renovated space and returned to the community.

3. The inauguration program

The opening day is shaping up to be a real community party, created in collaboration with the Municipality and open to all citizens.
The program includes a meeting along Via XX Settembre with the association's vehicles, followed by the celebration of Holy Mass in the Church, presided over by the Bishop of Lucca and concelebrated by Secretary General of the CEI and the National Corrector of the Misericordie, accompanied by the Gasparini Choir.
Following, the official inauguration of the complex and the presentation of the works created by the Maestro Lorenzo D'AndreaThe day continued with moments of sharing, entertainment, and remembrance, including the memory of Don Angelo Bevilacqua, a significant figure in the community.

4. The works of mercy: first spiritual, then corporal

The central element of the project is the installation of the fourteen works of mercy created by the master Lorenzo D'Andrea, which give a precise identity to the Church.
The spiritual works of mercy are emphasized, emphasizing the importance of interiority and human relationships. These include teaching the ignorant, counseling the doubtful, consoling the afflicted, forgiving offenses, patiently bearing with those who do us harm, and praying for the living and the dead. These are often silent actions, but they are essential for building an authentic community.
Alongside these are the corporal works of mercy, which evoke the concrete dimension of service: feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming strangers, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead. These are gestures that have always characterized the work of the Misericordie and continue to be relevant today.
These works together offer a comprehensive vision of mercy, understood as a comprehensive attention to the person.

5. The renovation project and its protagonists

The restoration of the historic complex was a complex project, involving both the structure and the systems, with particular attention to energy efficiency and safety.
A key role was played by the person in charge of the renovation, theengineer Samuele Tomei, who followed all phases of the project with passion, expertise, and attention, helping to restore functionality and value to a building marked by time.
Alongside the technical dimension, it is also important to remember the guidance and vision of the Governor of the Misericordia of Camaiore and Lido, which has firmly supported this relaunch process, interpreting it as not only a structural investment, but above all a human and social one.

6. The Church of Suffrage and the Works of Mercy as a living space

The renovated church will not only be a place of worship, but also a space open to culture and education. The idea is to make it a "corner of beauty," capable of hosting meetings, moments of reflection, and initiatives aimed at the public.
In this sense, the Church becomes a meeting point between spirituality and daily life, where mercy translates into concrete and shared experiences.
To animate it the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of the project OPERA M.

7. Art, community and identity

The artistic contribution of maestro Lorenzo D'Andrea is one of the project's distinctive elements. His works make the values of mercy visible, transforming the space into a symbolic and spiritual journey.
Looking ahead, the involvement of other artists and the openness to contemporary languages, such asurban art, will be able to further strengthen the link between tradition and innovation, making the complex a cultural point of reference as well.

8. A look to the future

The reopening of the historic complex and the Church of Suffrage and the Works of Mercy does not represent a point of arrival, but the beginning of a new phase.
La Mercy of Camaiore and Lido thus confirms its own vocation to service, renewing its ties with the local area and relaunching its commitment to the most vulnerable people.
The works of mercy, spiritual and corporal, continue to point the way: a path of attention, listening, and shared responsibility, capable of building a more united and supportive community.
