Seed of Mercy
Pleading hands are raised to the sky, the silences of the whole world pray in the one language of love my God, come, revisit the earth in your mercy.
TODAY'S SAINT
Blessed Virgin Mary of Constantinople
Every day the Church celebrates the journey of men and women who have been able to make the mercy of God through concrete gestures of love and service.
Blessed Virgin Mary of Constantinople, along with the other saints remembered today, Tuesday, March 3, shows us that holiness comes from small things lived with a big heart. Meditating on the saint of the day helps us recognize that mercy is the path that transforms everyday life into a gift, and invites us to follow her example in our own time.
TODAY'S GOSPEL
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 23,1-12
At that time, Jesus addressed the crowd and his disciples saying:
«On the chair of Moses the scribes and the Pharisees sat.
Practice and observe all that they tell you, but do not do according to their works, for they say and do not practice.
For they tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them.
All their works they do to be seen by men: they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long;
They enjoy the places of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and being called ‘Rabbi’ by people.
But do not be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Master, and you are all brothers.
And do not call any one of you on earth your father, for one is your Father, who is in heaven.
And do not be called “guides,” for you have only one Guide, the Christ.
Whoever is greatest among you will be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
Comments on today's Gospel
Commentary on the Gospel by Father Giordano Favillini
And do not be called 'guides,' for you have only one guide: Christ.
It's easier to find human guides because that way you avoid the effort of choosing, but when the guide is internal, it's Jesus, He shows us the direction to take but it's up to us to decide, He teaches us responsibility.
