Seed of Mercy
And the water became holy, the Church will be its basin, and mercy will become a tree of salvation for centuries.
TODAY'S SAINT
Saint Peter Nolasco
Every day the Church celebrates the journey of men and women who have been able to make the mercy of God through concrete gestures of love and service.
Saint Peter Nolasco, along with the other saints remembered today, Wednesday, May 6th, shows us that holiness comes from small things lived with a big heart. Meditating on the saint of the day helps us recognize that mercy is the path that transforms everyday life into a gift, and invites us to follow his example in our own time.
TODAY'S GOSPEL
From the Gospel according to John
Jn 15,1-8
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
Abide in me, as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for without me you can do nothing.
Whoever does not remain in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; and people gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
My Father is glorified in this: that you bear much fruit and become my disciples ».
Comments on today's Gospel
Commentary on the Gospel by Father Giordano Favillini
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for without me you can do nothing.
In Jesus there is all the potential for possible good that is communicated to those who are united with him, otherwise man with the minimal resources for good that he possesses due to his limitations will do very limited good.
