Seed of Mercy
To the Lord I raise my wooden prayer because He is holy and His grace descends in His mercy, the vehicle of His love.
TODAY'S SAINT
Saint Matilda of Germany
Every day the Church celebrates the journey of men and women who have been able to make the mercy of God through concrete gestures of love and service.
Saint Matilda of Germany, along with the other saints remembered today, Saturday, March 14, shows us that holiness comes from small things lived with a big heart. Meditating on the saint of the day helps us recognize that mercy is the path that transforms everyday life into a gift, and invites us to follow her example in our own time.
TODAY'S GOSPEL
From the Gospel according to Luke
Lc 18,9-14
At that time, Jesus again said this parable for some who had the intimate presumption of being righteous and despised others:
«Two men went up to the temple to pray: one was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself:
“God, I thank you that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice a week and give tithes of all that I possess.”
But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying,
“O God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
I tell you: unlike the other, he returned home justified, because whoever exalts himself will be humbled, whoever humbles himself will be exalted ».
Comments on today's Gospel
Commentary on the Gospel by Father Giordano Favillini
“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
Those who live for their own glory and to always make a good impression while failing to perform just and charitable actions will fall into disrepute and their achievements will always be mediocre and unproductive.
