“School” in the village of Santa Clara, in the state of Mato Grosso

On “Cuore Amico”, the testimony of two volunteers of theOperation Mato GrossoThe work of mercy "educating the ignorant" and the dream of a school

A straw hut, open on the sides, where it rains inside; inside there are only a few desks and a floating blackboard. It's the "school" of the village of Santa Clara, near the city of Campinápolis, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.
Collects the children of the indigenous families of the village"It's not just the school that's made of straw," as Vanderley and Raquel, volunteers with Operation Mato Grosso, tell us.

"All indigenous people live in huts, work extensively with nature, and live according to their traditions and simplicity. Unfortunately, the government's assistance is always limited, and for this reason, the education of the youngest remains the most neglected social issue."

Even in extremely precarious conditions, however, the school from the thatched roof tries to fulfill his profession as a means of social emancipation, even if it does not allow for adequate training courses to be carried out, in the right spaces and with the necessary teaching materials.

"Our dream," say Vanderley and Raquel, "is to build a school accessible to all the children and youth in the village and the surrounding area." This is a task that should be undertaken by the state, but one that often requires biblical waiting times.

«We feel the urgency of give the opportunity to go to school in a structure that facilitates teaching, and we've started building a small one with two classrooms, a kitchen, bathrooms, and a covered outdoor space. We need help to complete it."
