On the island of Pemba, in the Zanzibar archipelago of Tanzania, a nursery school is being built in the parish of St. Francis Xavier, which will also serve as an educational center for the young people of Dongo Mawe.
In this place, where 98% of the population is Muslim, the diocese wishes to create an open and welcoming school, capable of accompanying children in their human and cultural growth.
This property will accommodate up to two hundred little students and over one hundred young people for whom specific training courses will be organized during the school year.
Furthermore, every weekend, students in difficulty and young people who have had to abandon their studies will be able to participate in remedial lessons and language, mathematics and science courses.
The project, which sees the participation of the local community, is promoted by pFather Gilbert Menas, parish priest and missionCongregation of the Holy Spirit.
"The goal is not just to provide education, but to create a place of encounter and dialogue, where children and young people from diverse backgrounds can grow with respect for human dignity."
Even in this reality, education means sowing understanding and responsibility.
This school will be just that: uno space to learn, meet and build together a future of peace.
