Truly listening means welcoming others, understanding complex realities, and allowing ourselves to be touched by the wounds of a world longing for care, solidarity, and mercy.<\/em><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"beyond-noise-encountering-the-other\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond noise, encountering the other<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We live in an age where everyone can speak, yet very few manage to be heard. Words multiply, news cycles accelerate, and communications are instantaneous. Still, the very essence of genuine encounter is often missing: the willingness to pause and make room for someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">World Hearing Day was established in 2007 by the International Federation of Hard of Hearing People (IFHOH) to champion the rights of individuals with hearing impairments. First celebrated in Brazil in 2008, the observance soon spread globally. It serves as a vital reminder of the power of dialogue and the urgency of breaking down barriers that hinder people from participating fully in community life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, listening encompasses far more than physical hearing. In families, where quietness may conceal a plea for help; among young people seeking mentors who welcome their questions without dismissal; in local neighborhoods, where loneliness frequently hides in plain sight amidst crowded streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, our awareness must extend to distant frontiers. Armed conflicts, forced displacements, poverty, persecution, and systemic inequalities are not mere headlines to read in haste. Behind every statistic are living faces, sacred names, families, and hopes for tomorrow. Listening calls us to seek firsthand testimonies, grasp contexts, amplify silenced voices, and refuse to grow numb to human suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot physically be everywhere, but we can resolve never to be indifferent. We can seek out responsible knowledge, stand behind humanitarian workers facing hardship, and translate understanding into tangible signs of closeness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"a-heart-that-remains-open\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A heart that remains open<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For all who dedicate themselves to the <strong>works of mercy<\/strong>, as nurtured daily through the mission of spazio + spadoni, listening stands as the vital threshold of compassionate action. Before offering aid, one must comprehend; before bringing solace, one must make room for grief; before discerning, one must honor another&#8217;s story. Mercy begins the moment we recognize that every human being possesses an inherent, inviolable dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What practical steps can we take today? Setting aside our smartphones during personal conversations, offering unhurried time to someone experiencing isolation, listening without interrupting, and giving voice to the marginalized. It means looking past our familiar boundaries and allowing the cries of the world to awaken our conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To listen deeply does not require having all the solutions.
