But Brazil remains divided, and reconciliation is an open challenge.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The victory of Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva in the Brazilian presidential election rekindles the hopes of those who work alongside the poor, indigenous peoples, and the most vulnerable communities. Describing the atmosphere in the country are several missionaries who live and work on the ground and who shared their impressions with a Catholic news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their testimonies capture the perspective of those who face the consequences of social inequalities, political tensions, and environmental threats every day. The electoral victory, however, does not erase the deep divisions that run through Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"the-relief-of-indigenous-communities\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The relief of indigenous communities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the voices gathered is that of Father Corrado Dalmonego, a Consolata missionary and anthropologist who has been working alongside the Yanomami in the State of Roraima for over twenty years. The missionary describes the voting participation of indigenous communities, for whom reaching the polling stations can require long journeys by canoe and motorboat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In their words emerges the relief of someone who feared a further worsening of the living conditions of indigenous peoples and a weakening of the protection of their territories. Indeed, threats linked to illegal mining activities and economic interests pressuring the Amazon remain. Protecting the forest and the populations that inhabit it will continue to require attention and commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father Flavio Lazzarin, a <em>fidei donum<\/em> missionary from the Diocese of Mantua in S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds, Maranh\u00e3o, also shared his impressions of the vote. An atmosphere of celebration and relief emerges from his words, accompanied, however, by the awareness that political polarization and the spread of hatred will not disappear with the election result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"the-hope-of-missionaries-looks-to-the-most-vulnerable\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The hope of missionaries looks to the most vulnerable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The testimonies gathered do not merely express a political evaluation. They put at the center the expectations of those living in the outskirts, families in difficulty, and communities demanding respect for rights, access to essential services, and opportunities for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Catholic organizations involved in international cooperation, including Adveniat and Misereor, have also emphasized the importance of social policies, the defense of human rights, and environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil has also called on those elected to commit to fighting hunger and poverty, reduce inequalities, promote decent work, and care for our common home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"from-the-ballot-box-to-daily-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the ballot box to daily life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the missionaries who have shared what they see and hear in the communities, hope must translate into concrete change. The vote opens up a possibility, but the path remains challenging: dialogue must be rebuilt, the most vulnerable protected, and development must not come at the expense of Indigenous peoples and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is in this perspective that mission meets collective responsibility: standing alongside the least, giving a voice to those at risk of being forgotten, and safeguarding life.
