Paolo Giulietti, Archbishop of Lucca, on the second spiritual work of mercy, to live it concretely in everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe works of the heart\u201d is a booklet written by Msgr. Paolo Giulietti on the occasion of the extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy convoked in 2015, when he was still auxiliary bishop of Perugia and Citt\u00e0 della Pieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten years have passed, but the reflections of the current Archbishop of Lucca regarding the works of mercy remain deeply relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intention is to revisit these brief meditations on the fourteen works and update them in everyday life: what spazio + spadoni calls the \u201cRe-Evolution of the works of mercy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"instruct-the-ignorant\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instruct the ignorant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The worst ignorance is that which concerns the most necessary knowledge: \u00abwhat is the meaning of our very living; what is the destiny that ultimately awaits us; whether our coming into existence has as its premise and reason a design of love or blind chance\u00bb (G. Biffi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We know more and more in depth an increasing number of aspects of the world, but we are losing the ability to understand reality. The Council reminds us: \u00abThough mankind today is struck with wonder at its own discoveries and its power, it often raises anxious questions about the current trends of the world, about the place and role of man in the universe, about the meaning of its individual and collective strivings, and about the ultimate destiny of things and of humanity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hence, giving witness and voice to the faith of the whole people of God gathered together by Christ, this Council can provide no more eloquent proof of its solidarity with, as well as its respect and love for the entire human family with which it is bound up, than by engaging with it in conversation about these various problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Council brings to mankind light kindled from the Gospel, and puts at its disposal those saving resources which the Church herself, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, receives from her Founder. In May 2021, he was elected President of the Episcopal Commission for the Family, Youth and Life, leaving his roles as a member of the Episcopal Commission for Education, Schools and Universities and as youth delegate of the Tuscan Episcopal Conference. He was born in Perugia, in the Archdiocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve, on 1 January 1964. After two years at university, he entered the seminary in Assisi, where he spent six years and attended the Theological Institute of Assisi, obtaining a bachelor\u2019s degree in theology. He was ordained a deacon on 28 October 1990 and a priest on 29 September 1991. During his youth and his time at the seminary, he was particularly committed to the pastoral care of younger generations. After his ordination, he continued to pursue this passion by attending the Pontifical Salesian University and specialising in catechetics and youth ministry. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and worked in the parish of San Sisto. From 1995 to 2001, Bishops Antonelli and Chiaretti appointed him to work full-time with young people as head of the diocesan office, chaplain to several youth associations (AC and FUCI), coordinator of conscientious objectors and chaplain to the \u201cS. Giuseppe Cafasso\u201d community for prisoners run by the diocesan Caritas. In September 2001, he was appointed head of the National Youth Ministry Service of the CEI, a position he held for six years, marked by the World Youth Days in Toronto and Cologne and by the meeting of young Italians with Benedetto XVI in Loreto in September 2007 (Agor\u00e0 dei giovani italiani). From December 2007 to October 2011, he was parish priest of the Pastoral Unit of Ponte San Giovanni. From June 2010, he served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve. On 10 August 2014, he was ordained a bishop, serving as auxiliary to Cardinal Archbishop Gualtiero Bassetti and as Titular Bishop of Termini Imerese. He was born in Perugia, in the Archdiocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve, on 1 January 1964. After two years at university, he entered the seminary in Assisi, where he spent six years and attended the Theological Institute of Assisi, obtaining a bachelor\u2019s degree in theology. He was ordained a deacon on 28 October 1990 and a priest on 29 September 1991. During his youth and his time at the seminary, he was particularly committed to the pastoral care of younger generations. After his ordination, he continued to pursue this passion by attending the Pontifical Salesian University and specialising in catechetics and youth ministry. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and worked in the parish of San Sisto. From 1995 to 2001, Bishops Antonelli and Chiaretti appointed him to work full-time with young people as head of the diocesan office, chaplain to several youth associations (AC and FUCI), coordinator of conscientious objectors and chaplain to the \u201cS. Giuseppe Cafasso\u201d community for prisoners run by the diocesan Caritas. In September 2001, he was appointed head of the National Youth Ministry Service of the CEI, a position he held for six years, marked by the World Youth Days in Toronto and Cologne and by the meeting of young Italians with Benedetto XVI in Loreto in September 2007 (Agor\u00e0 dei giovani italiani). From December 2007 to October 2011, he was parish priest of the Pastoral Unit of Ponte San Giovanni. From June 2010, he served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve. On 10 August 2014, he was ordained a bishop, serving as auxiliary to Cardinal Archbishop Gualtiero Bassetti and as Titular Bishop of Termini Imerese.
