{"id":96147,"date":"2025-09-15T10:30:41","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T09:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaziospadoni.org\/?p=96147"},"modified":"2026-10-06T18:52:06","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T17:52:06","slug":"the-works-of-the-heart-the-second-corporal-work-of-mercy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaziospadoni.org\/en\/the-works-of-the-heart-the-second-corporal-work-of-mercy\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cThe Works of the Heart\u201d \u2013 The Second Corporal Work of Mercy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A brief meditation by Archbishop Paolo Giulietti, Archbishop of Lucca, on the second corporal Opera of mercy, to live it concretely in daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abThe works of the heart\u00bb is a booklet written by Archbishop Paolo Giulietti on the occasion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy called in 2015, when he was still auxiliary bishop of Perugia and Citt\u00e0 della Pieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten years have passed, but the reflections of the current Archbishop of Lucca regarding the Opere of mercy remain fully relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intention is to revisit these short meditations on the fourteen Opere to make them present in daily life: what spazio + spadoni calls the \u00abReEvolution of the works of mercy\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"dar-da-bere-agli-assetati\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dar da bere agli assetati<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the encyclical Laudato si\u2019, Pope Francis paid particular attention to the issue of water: although indispensable to human life and activity, it is not equally accessible to all human beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several factors, united by the reckless use of resources, make it urgent to preserve and distribute drinking water across the globe. Furthermore, conflicts linked to the control of water sources are on the rise across all continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even in Italy, despite the \u00abpro-public water\u00bb referendum held in June 2011, water availability and its cost continue to be an issue, especially in certain regions and for the most vulnerable segments of the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, caring for the thirsty means striving for a fairer distribution of water resources, reducing losses in transportation and use, promoting recycling and smarter consumption, and adopting a lifestyle more attentive to waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One could also expand the scope of the Opera to another type of \u00abliquid\u00bb: the financial resources required for investment, research, and growth. He was born in Perugia, in the Archdiocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve, on 1 January 1964. After two years at university, he entered the seminary in Assisi, where he spent six years and attended the Theological Institute of Assisi, obtaining a bachelor\u2019s degree in theology. He was ordained a deacon on 28 October 1990 and a priest on 29 September 1991. During his youth and his time at the seminary, he was particularly committed to the pastoral care of younger generations. After his ordination, he continued to pursue this passion by attending the Pontifical Salesian University and specialising in catechetics and youth ministry. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and worked in the parish of San Sisto. From 1995 to 2001, Bishops Antonelli and Chiaretti appointed him to work full-time with young people as head of the diocesan office, chaplain to several youth associations (AC and FUCI), coordinator of conscientious objectors and chaplain to the \u201cS. Giuseppe Cafasso\u201d community for prisoners run by the diocesan Caritas. In September 2001, he was appointed head of the National Youth Ministry Service of the CEI, a position he held for six years, marked by the World Youth Days in Toronto and Cologne and by the meeting of young Italians with Benedetto XVI in Loreto in September 2007 (Agor\u00e0 dei giovani italiani). From December 2007 to October 2011, he was parish priest of the Pastoral Unit of Ponte San Giovanni. From June 2010, he served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve. On 10 August 2014, he was ordained a bishop, serving as auxiliary to Cardinal Archbishop Gualtiero Bassetti and as Titular Bishop of Termini Imerese. He was born in Perugia, in the Archdiocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve, on 1 January 1964. After two years at university, he entered the seminary in Assisi, where he spent six years and attended the Theological Institute of Assisi, obtaining a bachelor\u2019s degree in theology. He was ordained a deacon on 28 October 1990 and a priest on 29 September 1991. During his youth and his time at the seminary, he was particularly committed to the pastoral care of younger generations. After his ordination, he continued to pursue this passion by attending the Pontifical Salesian University and specialising in catechetics and youth ministry. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and worked in the parish of San Sisto. From 1995 to 2001, Bishops Antonelli and Chiaretti appointed him to work full-time with young people as head of the diocesan office, chaplain to several youth associations (AC and FUCI), coordinator of conscientious objectors and chaplain to the \u201cS. Giuseppe Cafasso\u201d community for prisoners run by the diocesan Caritas. In September 2001, he was appointed head of the National Youth Ministry Service of the CEI, a position he held for six years, marked by the World Youth Days in Toronto and Cologne and by the meeting of young Italians with Benedetto XVI in Loreto in September 2007 (Agor\u00e0 dei giovani italiani). From December 2007 to October 2011, he was parish priest of the Pastoral Unit of Ponte San Giovanni. From June 2010, he served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve. On 10 August 2014, he was ordained a bishop, serving as auxiliary to Cardinal Archbishop Gualtiero Bassetti and as Titular Bishop of Termini Imerese.
