Paolo Giulietti, Archbishop of Lucca, on the fifth corporal work of mercy, to live it concretely in daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abThe works of the heart\u00bb is a booklet written by msgr. Paolo Giulietti on the occasion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy announced in 2015, when he was still auxiliary bishop of Perugia and Citt\u00e0 della Pieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten years have passed, but the reflections of the current Archbishop of Lucca regarding the works of mercy remain deeply relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intention is to revisit these brief meditations on the fourteen works to update them in everyday life: what spazio + spadoni calls the \u00abReEvolution of the works of mercy\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"visiting-the-sick\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting the sick<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although episodes of \u00abpoor healthcare\u00bb are frequently discussed and our country still faces shortages of facilities and services, this work of mercy must be interpreted today in a personal and relational key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, it is not enough to provide a patient with the best therapies if we do not also answer the questions that suffering brings with it: having someone nearby who loves us, managing to give meaning to what one is going through, and never losing hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today&#8217;s cultural context, the ability to cope effectively with limitation, pain, and death seems to be waning: we possess many therapeutic tools, but we are lacking in caring for the person and managing pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abVisiting the sick\u00bb asks us today to offer meaningful, truly empathetic relationships, within which the suffering person can illuminate their situation with friendship, meaning, and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping to defeat loneliness and confront evil, especially when facing lonely or abandoned people, is today&#8217;s way of practicing the fifth Work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Giulietti, P., <em>Le opere del cuore<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Image created digitally by spazio + spadoni<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A brief meditation by msgr. He was born in Perugia, in the Archdiocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve, on 1 January 1964. After two years at university, he entered the seminary in Assisi, where he spent six years and attended the Theological Institute of Assisi, obtaining a bachelor\u2019s degree in theology. He was ordained a deacon on 28 October 1990 and a priest on 29 September 1991. During his youth and his time at the seminary, he was particularly committed to the pastoral care of younger generations. After his ordination, he continued to pursue this passion by attending the Pontifical Salesian University and specialising in catechetics and youth ministry. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and worked in the parish of San Sisto. From 1995 to 2001, Bishops Antonelli and Chiaretti appointed him to work full-time with young people as head of the diocesan office, chaplain to several youth associations (AC and FUCI), coordinator of conscientious objectors and chaplain to the \u201cS. Giuseppe Cafasso\u201d community for prisoners run by the diocesan Caritas. In September 2001, he was appointed head of the National Youth Ministry Service of the CEI, a position he held for six years, marked by the World Youth Days in Toronto and Cologne and by the meeting of young Italians with Benedetto XVI in Loreto in September 2007 (Agor\u00e0 dei giovani italiani). From December 2007 to October 2011, he was parish priest of the Pastoral Unit of Ponte San Giovanni. From June 2010, he served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve. On 10 August 2014, he was ordained a bishop, serving as auxiliary to Cardinal Archbishop Gualtiero Bassetti and as Titular Bishop of Termini Imerese. He was born in Perugia, in the Archdiocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve, on 1 January 1964. After two years at university, he entered the seminary in Assisi, where he spent six years and attended the Theological Institute of Assisi, obtaining a bachelor\u2019s degree in theology. He was ordained a deacon on 28 October 1990 and a priest on 29 September 1991. During his youth and his time at the seminary, he was particularly committed to the pastoral care of younger generations. After his ordination, he continued to pursue this passion by attending the Pontifical Salesian University and specialising in catechetics and youth ministry. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and worked in the parish of San Sisto. From 1995 to 2001, Bishops Antonelli and Chiaretti appointed him to work full-time with young people as head of the diocesan office, chaplain to several youth associations (AC and FUCI), coordinator of conscientious objectors and chaplain to the \u201cS. Giuseppe Cafasso\u201d community for prisoners run by the diocesan Caritas. In September 2001, he was appointed head of the National Youth Ministry Service of the CEI, a position he held for six years, marked by the World Youth Days in Toronto and Cologne and by the meeting of young Italians with Benedetto XVI in Loreto in September 2007 (Agor\u00e0 dei giovani italiani). From December 2007 to October 2011, he was parish priest of the Pastoral Unit of Ponte San Giovanni. From June 2010, he served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia\u2013Citt\u00e0 della Pieve. On 10 August 2014, he was ordained a bishop, serving as auxiliary to Cardinal Archbishop Gualtiero Bassetti and as Titular Bishop of Termini Imerese.
