In <strong>Pourcine-Pic Makaya<\/strong>, among the rugged heights of the Caribbean nation, the academic year began on schedule with the traditional Mass of the Holy Spirit. Guiding this humble outpost of the future is Father Massimo Miraglio, a Camillian missionary and parish priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"a-light-shining-amidst-fragility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A light shining amidst fragility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The overall national landscape remains deeply troubling: countless urban schools were forced to postpone reopening due to pervasive insecurity and a crumbling school network. In Pourcine, however, educators and children resolved not to surrender. Students arrived in great numbers, eager to resume their studies, even though the classrooms remain fragile and demand continuous consolidation and maintenance work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weighing on the local community is not merely geographical isolation, but also a relentless drought that decimated harvests in recent months, driving peasant families into deeper hardship. Confronted with these trials, the parish does not restrict itself to teaching: it stands faithfully beside parents and students, making the classroom a protective sanctuary of listening, care, and communal trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"education-as-a-living-work-of-mercy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Education as a living work of mercy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reality experienced on the heights of Pourcine truly mirrors the calling that spazio + spadoni champions worldwide: living the <strong>works of mercy<\/strong> as an active force for social renewal and universal solidarity. Educating those deprived of opportunity and consoling those enduring severe adversity are not mere abstract duties, but tangible acts that restore dignity. When poverty threatens to crush the aspirations of the young, schooling rises as an authentic bastion of peace and human dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u00abThe further I advance in my ministry, the more I realize the fundamental importance of school in laying the foundations for a better future for our community\u00bb.<\/em> <br><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father Miraglio&#8217;s words remind us that authentic development always starts with patient care and genuine belief in the promise of the younger generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"sowing-today-to-harvest-tomorrow\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sowing today to harvest tomorrow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abInvesting in education to reap good fruits tomorrow. It is a battle with a very uncertain outcome, but at the parochial school of Pourcine-Pic Makaya we do not step back\u00bb. This proclamation of active faith speaks directly to our global conscience. Standing beside educators in the world&#8217;s most vulnerable peripheries means declaring that no community is forgotten and that every child deserves a dignified tomorrow.
