Burundi – Africa | Project #14 of 72

Initially, while in Italy for training, Sister Alice thought that when she returned to Burundi she could establish a poultry farm, a small bakery, or a beekeeping activity as a social enterprise. At Misericordia di Monte San Savino, she therefore completed in-depth training in all three activities, which she later reinforced upon returning to Burundi by attending specific courses organized in Bujumbura with her fellow sisters. Back in Gitega, Sister Alice first had to focus on her university studies, supported by the “Adotta una suora” campaign promoted by spazio + spadoni, so the launch of a social enterprise had to wait. This decision was made with the Congregation while awaiting the completion of the Bujumbura project led by her fellow sister, Sister Hyacinthe, which was also financially supported by spazio + spadoni.

Sister Alice belongs to the Suore Bene Mariya Congregation and completed the HIC SUM project training at Misericordia di Monte San Savino, in partnership with other Misericordie in the province of Arezzo.

Since January 2022, she has lived in Gitega, the capital of Burundi, where she studied “Accounting, Control, and Auditing” at the Faculty of Economics. Her studies were made possible by spazio + spadoni’s “Adotta una suora” campaign, which provides financial support so that a sister can train according to the Congregation’s needs and offer a structured service in response to the community’s needs.
