Charism: Inspired by the family spirit and nourished by the spirituality of Nazareth, we educate in the broadest sense. The charism is a gift of the Spirit for the good of the community. Mercy gives rise to the charism and nourishes it.
Mission Experiences: Our Congregation is missionary by nature. At present I carry out my mission with the sick. The sick come trusting that they will find relief from me; I care for them in collaboration with my fellow sisters and other colleagues, showing them that these people are our responsibility and that the Lord helps us and them to recover their health. In this experience, in the mission, I find trust and cooperation in receiving help. By caring for the sick, I feel involved in the Works of Mercy. As a member of a missionary Congregation, I go wherever Providence sends me to meet people, our brothers and sisters, and I consider this a treasure. I am open to every mission that contributes to the proclamation of the Gospel.
Experiences Abroad: I had a positive experience abroad: I opened myself to another culture and to other people who showed me fellowship and welcomed me into their country. I felt at home and integrated into that country. I saw how others live. Through my experience abroad, I came to embrace the culture of Jesus, which includes every person. Going abroad, to Italy, was truly wonderful because it gave me a new perspective. I now have friends everywhere I have been. I feel truly enriched.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: I had a wonderful experience with Spazio Spadoni. I discovered that its mission met ours: to live Mercy with our brothers and sisters in need. Spazio Spadoni contacted my Congregation, and together they discussed finding a sister who could go to Italy for training. My Superiors, considering the idea a good one, offered me the opportunity to learn Italian in Kinshasa so that I could be better prepared for the six-month training. Spazio S padoni found the Congregation and the Misericordia where I trained and supported me in every way, logistically and financially. Spazio Spadoni broadened its outlook by training the Ambassadors of Mercy and inviting them to bear witness to what I had experienced. Spadoni put his wealth and knowledge at the service of the poor, giving bread to those in need and teaching them how to obtain it. Spazio Spadoni takes the initiative in doing good, trains, accompanies and follows up in order to perpetuate the Works of Mercy.

Future Projects: The future project is to continue what Luigi Spadoni began, taking care of what we already have and carrying forward our existing project. In essence, we must care for what already exists, make it bear fruit and perpetuate it. From where I am, I will keep Spazio Spadoni alive by encouraging volunteers to work for the good of the poor.

We share what we have with the poor.
Mission Experiences: I prepare the liturgy of the Word of God in the church and in the choir; I served in the Holy Spirit movement, at the Laghi Blu international school for two years and at the nursery school for five years. I had three years of experience with children with disabilities at Fondation Liliane.

Mission Experiences: During my 17 years of religious life, I have served in various missions in northern, southern and central Mexico. I worked with groups of families, children and young people, with whom we shared a life of faith and, above all, discovered God’s immense love for families. Being with families and joyfully serving those most in need is one of the experiences I am most passionate about, and God has granted me the grace of serving in various parishes and dioceses throughout the country.
Experiences Abroad: This experience in Italy, and particularly in Rosolini, is my first outside Mexico, and I truly feel at home because the welcome is extraordinary. Sicilians are wonderful.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: To know Spazio Spadoni is to give the Gospel a concrete face. It is to give one’s life out of love for those most in need, placing complete trust in Divine Providence; above all, however, Spazio Spadoni means allowing oneself to be embraced and experiencing God’s mercy in order then to share it with others.

Charism: The Figlie di San Francesco are inspired by the request that Saint Francis made in prayer to the Lord at La Verna “to feel in his limbs and heart all the pain of the Passion and to have him feel all the love with which he was inflamed in willingly enduring the Passion for us sinners”. From their Holy Patron they draw the courage to move forward, the charity that is patient, kind, selfless, that thinks no evil, does not rejoice in the evil of others but rejoices in the truth, believes all things, endures all things, hopes all things, as Saint Paul says. The Institute, at its origins, was not founded to create a work that would help the poor, the needy or others. Sister Caterina only wanted to live her vocation in intimacy with God, from Saint Francis’s perspective, in Prayer and Penance, at the service of the Community, through work and living together. Saint Francis said that a friar should eat through the work of his own hands; for this reason they can be defined as an institute of penance.

Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: Our Institute’s collaboration with Spazio Spadoni began when we hosted in our community in Borgo a Mozzano two sisters from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who were carrying out HIC SUM project training in Italy at the Misericordia. For some time, even before welcoming them, I had been attending the Misericordia of Borgo a Mozzano, especially activities concerning the elderly. After that experience, my Institute also decided to join the HIC SUM project, identifying me as the person to be trained and sent to Timor-Leste to continue the project. I attended several specific training sessions and the “Fare Spazio al Coraggio” Convention, organized by spazio + spadoni.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: After the training I received and the time spent with Spazio Spadoni, I understood that this Foundation works to respond to existential challenges, especially in Africa and those faced by African religious. I think it is a great mission of communion and sharing experiences among women’s Congregations in Africa, for Africa’s recovery and development.
Future Projects: The use of the training received in Loppiano. This year’s Ongoing Formation in 2023 (3 training sessions for all the sisters and by region) will focus on the Works of Mercy and the Economy of Communion (late February, March and April).
At the end of these training sessions, our Institute wants to revitalize the life of our charism, compassion, in all its areas: the sisters’ community life, schools, orphanages and income-generating activities.

She likes the digital world and does not confuse the virtual with the real, but believes in human connections. Her interest in the Mission comes from gratitude and giving back after almost 15 years of life in Brazil, where she learned that to truly live well, all together, it is necessary to share. Originally from Varedo (MB), attracted by the mission ad gentes, she approached the Congregazione Missionaria Sorelle di S. Gemma of Lucca and began her formation journey on 12 September 1988. She professed her first vows on 15 September 1991 and her perpetual vows on 6 September 1997. She attended the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences and worked pastorally in the Diocese of Lucca; she attended the course for formators and was appointed head of formation for Italy. As a community animator, she served at Casa Famiglia S. Gemma, caring for the children welcomed under Progetto Pollicino and the mothers of Progetto Cassiopea. At the 2006 General Chapter she was elected Vicar General, an appointment also confirmed for the following six-year term, while during the Ninth General Chapter in 2018 she was elected Superior General and reconfirmed in September 2024. Since 12 September 1988, the day her journey in the religious family of the Sorelle di S. Gemma began, she has been committed to deepening the charism received as a gift from Mother Gemma Giannini, expressed through four characteristics: simplicity, humility, charity and sacrifice.

Future Projects: When I return to the Philippines, I will take my experience with me and learn from the training that Spazio S padoni organized for us. Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: Many thanks to Luigi Spadoni, who gave me the opportunity to have an experience in Adrano with the Misericordia Community of Adrano. I felt at home because a very beautiful fraternity is lived there, with mutual care for one another and a constant openness to missionary work. We who came from another, very distant country felt at ease.

Future Projects: The experience with the Adrano Community is over for the moment, but the projects must be implemented. The link with the work of the Misericordia must become even stronger and above all must be nourished by prayer, which knows no boundaries. We hope that one day Misericordia volunteers will come to Madagascar to have a missionary experience of mercy as well.

Experiences Abroad: I had an experience in Italy, far from my usual living environment, for training on the works of mercy at the invitation of spazio + spadoni. But I cannot really say that I was abroad because, in the community of the Sorelle di Santa Gemma that hosted me, I felt at ease and lived joyfully as in a family.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: My experience with Spazio Spadoni enabled me to live the biblical words that say there is more joy in giving than in receiving; spazio + spadoni is a generous organization that is eager to proclaim and live the Gospel Beatitudes, sharing with those in need without expecting anything in return.

We encourage these good projects and believe it is beneficial for all congregations or institutes that wish to experience them, in order to bring together Christ’s love for us with greater influence.
Future Projects: The project of the Religieuses de l’Instruction Chrétienne consists in responding to a need here and now. Our institute’s most urgent need is to answer the call of the Holy Spirit through the education of young people, enabling them to access the faith. Many young people currently need guidance for their future lives; some cannot meet their basic needs because of a lack of means and opportunities. In collaboration with spazio + spadoni, the Religieuses de l’Instruction Chrétienne will be able to help these people materially and spiritually, inviting them to become agents of mercy themselves.
Furthermore, in collaboration with spazio + spadoni, we try to introduce the works of mercy to those who do not know them. To achieve this goal, the sisters integrate this point into their teaching, inviting young people to experience it.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: I greatly appreciate Spazio Spadoni and its initiative to work with religious Congregations, especially African ones. Spazio Spadoni is a school for spreading the Works of Mercy: in today’s world it is very urgent to speak of them out loud. For me, Spazio Spadoni is the messenger of these works. It is still young and also needs to equip itself with a very solid structure in order to follow and manage the HIC SUM projects it has already launched.
I greatly wish to see sisters trained one day in Africa, Asia and Latin America. This would help the sisters remain in their own context. It is a proposal; project designs and start-up deadlines vary from one context to another. Several factors interact. Communication tools and support may be necessary. Finally, I have a word of gratitude and thanks for Luigi, the initiator and founder: all my encouragement and support, if they can be useful.
Future Projects: Create a centre to provide accommodation and support for girls in difficulty in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Charism: Our charism is embodied in the fourth vow we make at profession, which consists in remembering and promoting the Passion of Jesus through our daily, community and apostolic life. To have great understanding for all the situations of suffering that exist in the world, particularly for those who are not accepted.
Mission Experiences: Through baptism, every Christian is a missionary
Experiences Abroad: My first missionary experience was in my country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where I worked in catechesis and prepared children for the sacraments of Christian initiation.
My second experience was in Ivory Coast, still in Africa, but I can say that I experienced a different Africa! Different traditions, customs and mentalities; we shared only the French language and black skin! My fellow sisters and I were in a village called Sago, where we provided pastoral care for the person in every aspect—human, cultural and spiritual. To evangelize a person we must know them, and this is our way of life.
My third missionary experience was in Italy, and there too it was not easy, especially because of the language and the cold. I lived in the community of Cariati, in southern Italy, where I taught catechism to children and every Sunday brought Communion to the sick, especially elderly people, nearly all of whom lived alone; during our time of prayer together, my presence was a comfort.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: Mr Luigi spoke about the HIC SUM project to Mother Elisabetta Giussani, Superior General of our congregation. He expressed the desire to launch a project, accompanied by our charism, in Africa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and particularly in Kavimvira, where we are based. Mother accepted and designated my mission as Kavimvira, specifically at the Shrine of Santa Maria Madre e Regina in the Diocese of Uvira in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Without delay I began my training at the Misericordia of Santa Gemma, in the Province of Lucca, before returning to the Congo and my homeland. This beautiful experience with local lay volunteers began on 29 September 2021 and is based first and foremost on self-giving, as well as on supporting and bringing relief to others. It is almost two years since we started with the "misericordia Spazio Spadoni" volunteer group, and every Sunday we meet to define the week’s apostolate, which each of us carries out in a group or individually. All the volunteers are happy to serve.

Mission Experiences: Since mission does not mean "leaving the country to go elsewhere", I am proud to leave one community for another when asked; a "Suore Bene Mariya" sister must go beyond herself to carry out the will of others, and I too must live this attitude of self-denial through obedience, which helps me live this missionary life wherever I am. I must live the mission every day, every hour.
Experiences Abroad: I had the opportunity to live abroad, in Italy. I met many people from different backgrounds who were animated by the spirit of giving. I lived with other consecrated and non-consecrated people who enriched me through their way of life. I ate things I had never seen before, such as "gambelette", and experienced many things, so I admired the mission enthusiastically. I took part in training with some Misericordia Associations, where I learned many important things related both to the community life of a consecrated person and to public life: cooking, first aid for others, etc.
I also took part in a one-week meeting held in Lucca, where I experienced unforgettable moments—the "Fare Spazio" Convention of Spazio Spadoni.
I also made useful trips to visit Holy Places.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: I learned many things with Spazio Spadoni through the Misericordia associations that I attended for six months. I was greatly motivated by their services to disadvantaged families, from which our charism also arises. I accompanied volunteers in distributing food parcels to the poor and transporting the sick to hospital. I then took training courses on the HIC SUM project and also on everyday matters: making bread and biscuits, firefighting and first aid.

Charism: The Figlie di San Francesco are inspired by the request that Saint Francis made in prayer to the Lord at La Verna “to feel in his limbs and heart all the pain of the Passion and to have him feel all the love with which he was inflamed in willingly enduring the Passion for us sinners”. From their Holy Patron they draw the courage to move forward, the charity that is patient, kind, selfless, that thinks no evil, does not rejoice in the evil of others but rejoices in the truth, believes all things, endures all things, hopes all things, as Saint Paul says. The Institute, at its origins, was not founded to create a work that would help the poor, the needy or others. Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: Our Institute’s collaboration with spazio + spadoni began when we hosted two sisters from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in our community in Borgo a Mozzano while they were carrying out HIC SUM project training in Italy at the Misericordia. After that experience, we too decided to join the project, which is currently being developed in one of our communities in East Timor with our Sister Ansila.

Mission Experiences: Since I entered the Congregation on 14/07/2016, I have had various missionary experiences ranging from community life to apostolic experiences:
I visited, listened to and served the poor and the sick in the slums of GATAKA and KUWINDA.
I had a missionary experience at the Wajir Catholic Mission dispensary, where I served as a receptionist, in the pharmacy, and also assisted in the maternity ward.
I served at the rehabilitation centre, where I massaged children with disabilities and taught them different school subjects. I fed them and involved them in physical activities such as outdoor games.
I worked at TABAKA Hospital, particularly in the women’s ward, carrying out various activities such as accompanying sick women to the examination room and transporting the deceased to the mortuary.
I was also involved in the apostolate of visiting women prisoners.
I visited abandoned children at the orphanage.
Experiences Abroad: ITALY AND KENYA
When I arrived in Italy, I received a warm welcome from the sisters at our Generalate and experienced their love and care. They accompanied me to visit spiritual places such as the birthplace and baptismal place of our Foundress, Blessed Maria Domenica Brun Barbantini; Piazza Maddalena, where the heart of Saint Camillus is located; the Vatican Museums; and Saint Peter’s Square.
When I arrived in Viareggio, where I completed the HIC SUM project training, I experienced the joy of the fraternal embrace of Luigi Spadoni, Gemma and the sisters of that community.
I lived in different communities where I had the opportunity to meet different people with different cultures and personalities. Being with the elderly helped me learn new things with wisdom through their advice. At the Misericordia of Viareggio I learned and developed communication skills and an approach towards people in need. I also helped check medicine expiry dates.
I assisted people with physical disabilities by taking them from their families to rehabilitation centres, and I also worked in a group that helps disadvantaged people.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: Through the relationship between Spazio Spadoni and those responsible for our Congregation, I freely responded to their invitation to come to Italy, experience the Works of Mercy and build a spirit of volunteering in social services. I experienced the fraternal love and care of Luigi Spadoni and Selene Pera, and of the other sisters we met at San Cerbone, where we shared our joy, meals, the pilgrimage to Montenero and other moments. They helped me learn about and deepen many things: the HIC SUM project, agricultural techniques, the Works of Mercy, first-aid manoeuvres, the creation of CROLINE, economic concepts such as budgeting, business, accounting, information technology and more.
I also took part in training on volunteering and in the " Fare Spazio al Coraggio " Convention.

Experiences Abroad: I make my personal talents available for whatever our hosts need. At the same time, I remain fully available to carry out any task: accompanying and helping the sick, welcoming people, pastoral work, and supporting the simplest and humblest. Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: We chose a sister from our Congregation to carry out the HIC SUM project. I came to know spazio + spadoni directly through meeting Luigi and Selene.
spazio + spadoni supports our fish-farming project and supported the training and travel of one of our sisters, Sister Annie, who also returned to Italy for training on the Works of Mercy.
What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: Creating this reality, open to the world and aimed at reaching the population, is a very good idea. With God’s grace, we can envision a better future through the formation of men and women, awakening in them a heart oriented towards sharing and mercy. A Christian sense of fraternity and sharing is lived.

Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: Our experience with Spazio Spadoni is expressed in a good relationship during the period of work and throughout the training aimed at strengthening works of mercy towards all people, for example within the family, in order to share difficulties.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: Like several other organizations involved in works of mercy, it brings one of the world’s missionary works to fruition. We join hands with Spazio Spadoni to fulfil God’s wishes by tirelessly carrying out works of mercy for those in need.
Future Projects: At the moment we are starting a small chicken-farming project, but in the future, if the opportunity arises, we will also develop other small projects to help the poor and strengthen the community to some extent.

Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: My experience with Spazio Spadoni concerns the HIC SUM project. I experienced two periods of training at San Cerbone. They were sisterly meetings with other Sisters, with Luigi Spadoni, Selene and Alessia, and with the Spadoni staff.
They were interesting moments in which I learned about and shared Spazio Spadoni’s vision of creating sustainable forms of support aimed at helping the poor, very much in keeping with the Church’s social doctrine, which the Pope promotes through the Economy of Francesco.
The second occasion was the Convention; it was an important event for training and motivation for the project: " Fare Spazio al Coraggio ". All the speakers’ topics and testimonies were very interesting.
It was an enriching experience both personally and ecclesially—living and sharing with others. Many thanks for the welcome, the affection shown and the many special moments you allowed us to experience. Thank you.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: Today this need to work as a network is felt more strongly, and this is what is being done in different parts of the world. I see Spazio Spadoni as a response to God, who always seeks the good of His poor daughters and sons; in this sense, Spazio Spadoni is part of a response to that vulnerable part of Humanity through the projects it promotes in collaboration with various Religious Institutes and Misericordia Associations in Italy.
It is a space that gives hope to many people, a space that contributes to building justice and therefore to promoting peace. It is a space where the kingdom of God can sprout like a seed.

I believe my calling was to help the sick and the poor. I was trained for this healing ministry. I served as a nurse in hospitals, offering my knowledge and my listening, with great love and affection for the sick and suffering. I love serving them, especially children and elderly people.
Experiences Abroad: When I arrived in Italy, it seemed very difficult to learn everything. It took several months to learn things and adapt to this place, which was new to me: the people, food, culture, etc. Once I adapted to the new environment, I began to feel very happy. I know that I can learn a great deal and work hard. Learning to care for elderly people and serve them with love and affection was very fulfilling. I feel happy and continue to gather this happiness in everything I do.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: I would like to thank Mr Luigi Spadoni, who gave me the opportunity to work with the Misericordia. I learned many things. I was extremely happy to work for sick children and children with neurological problems, and I learned about the missions they are carrying out, the number of beneficiaries, etc.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: I greatly admire this ministry of his aimed at helping the poor throughout the world, especially where many suffer from hunger, thirst and unemployment. Through this ministry, I strongly feel that I am serving Jesus Himself by serving the sick and elderly. I feel grateful to God for this wonderful opportunity to work with this Movement.
Future Projects: We plan to help elderly people, but we do not have a home in which to care for them. Thanks to spazio + spadoni, we are therefore building one, so that we can do our best for them.

Mission Experiences: Our congregation was founded in 1978; the purpose of our mission is to proclaim the good news to the poor in the name of the Congregation. We provide many services: above all, we educate children, serve the sick, help women who do not have work and therefore lack the means to care for their children, welcome orphans—those without parents—and poor children, and provide social services, tailoring and pastoral work in the Parish. Most of our communities are located in rural areas.
Experiences Abroad: I know the missionary context and the values of work; I want to do my best for our area. Everyone needs our help, especially elderly people and children with mental-health problems whose families have no work to support them. I believe God will provide support and knowledge to do everything with positive thoughts.
Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: The purpose of this project is to support economically disadvantaged people to ensure their livelihood. The sisters, who work among the poorest people, are trained to improve their livelihood through specific courses—typing, computers, tailoring, napkin making and bag making—and to provide employment opportunities that should help manage families and support the upkeep of the centre. The project includes a morning to-do list and budget planning according to the programme we organized.
This project is entirely based on charity and on developing activities to benefit poor, abandoned and destitute people.
This project motivates us to continue serving without any interruption. It should not stop. We should expand it in every possible way.
Jesus called me to this religious life. Above all, He called me to carry out this project for the poorest people in my country.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: I would like to thank the S pazio S padoni Foundation, which gave us the opportunity to carry out the six-month project. Experiences with Spazio Spadoni: For about two years I served in the Misericordia with particular attention to Social Service Volunteers. With an enchanted gaze and open heart, I took part in several Conventions and on other occasions was invited to share my experience regarding the Works of Mercy with the Sisters of ‘ “Hic sum”. At times I collaborated in drafting themed writings for OPERAM.

What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: For me, Spazio Spadoni is today the most innovative response for restoring, from a synodal perspective, the Face of God’s Love and His Mercy to the contemporary Church. Its multifaceted view of the world restores the Church’s true image. No longer of Apollo or Paul, etc., but all belonging to God as brothers and sisters guided by a single passion: making God and His Mercy known through the various congregational charisms, lay associations, or simply through brothers and sisters who place themselves at the service of this great “Society of Love”, to bring God to the poorest and smallest; God who even today presents Himself anew in the spiritual and corporal Works of Mercy, listening attentively to the earth’s crying and pain. Its awareness of every painful event affecting the whole world through social media is extraordinary… and its desire to dialogue with everyone and welcome everyone into the great Agora of Spazio Spadoni is truly synodal. Spazio Spadoni thus gives us back a Church of equal brothers and sisters in the catholicity of the Church willed by Jesus.
Future Projects: My future projects inhabit a “dream”. With Martin Luther Khing, I like to repeat “I have a dream”, that is: “I have a dream ”. I too “have a dream before me… that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the children of those who were once slaves will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood… and every valley will be exalted… every mountain lowered… and the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all living beings will see it… This is the faith with which I set out… With this faith we will be able to work together, pray together, go to prison together, defend everyone’s freedom together… That day everyone will know how to sing with new meanings. Everyone will know how to become humble instruments in the hands of the Lord so that God’s mercy may always be at OPERAM.

Mission Experiences: I have completed 27 years of religious life. On 2 August 1997 I took my vows and immediately afterwards was sent to university to continue my studies in “management and finance” until 2003. After these years of study, I worked in our schools as a teacher, prefect of studies and director from 2004 to 2008. In 2008, I was appointed Superior of the community in the forest and at the same time school director. In 2013, I was sent to manage the finances of the Catholic University in the Diocese of Morondava, in south-western Madagascar, and at the same time the Bishop asked me to assist him as treasurer of the diocese until 2018. In September 2018, I was transferred to the orphanage in the Diocese of Antsirabe as head of the community and responsible for the proper functioning of the Catholic University and all the activities within this centre. In September 2022, the delegate appointed me project manager and, to facilitate collaboration, I had to join her in Antananarivo. Since then, I have been in the Antananarivo community, as a community member in the first year and entrusted with the community from September 2022 to the present. Meanwhile, the delegate sister sent me to Italy for six months of training at the Misericordia of Adrano.
Experiences Abroad: I had a six-month experience at the “Misericordia di Adrano – Catania” from March to August 2024. During this course, I attended several days of training concerning the &ZeroWidthSpace;&ZeroWidthSpace;HIC SUM project within spazio + spadoni.

WORKS OF MERCY
What do you think of Spazio Spadoni: In my opinion, spazio + spadoni is a promoter of human development. Its action aims to help the Church and the State emerge from every kind of poverty through a new method: helping people regain their dignity as children of God. To do this, it collaborates with religious congregations, priests and laypeople.
Future Projects: On the one hand, it is urgent for me to promote—that is, make known—the objective of spazio + spadoni at Congregation level, in the Church and in society in Madagascar. At the same time, I am beginning to create and follow small projects with people in the surrounding community. I am starting with two people. In the future, I intend to improve our livestock farming and agriculture within our orphanage in order to ensure the operation of this work. This project will then spread to all communities in Madagascar according to the needs of each community.
