The Confraternity of Mercy of Saint Gemma Galgani is a voluntary association that is part of the Misericordie Movement, founded in 1244 in Florence by Pietro da Verona, later Saint Peter Martyr. Today the Misericordie are present in Italy and abroad with over 700 Confraternities.

History
The Mercy of Saint Gemma Galgani was founded on October 18, 2010 by 103 founding members and includes several towns in the area, namely: Camigliano, Gragnano, Lappato, Petrognano, San Colombano, San Gennaro, San Martino in Colle, San Pietro a Marcigliano, Sant’Andrea in Caprile, Segromigno in Piano, Segromigno in Monte, Tofori and Valgiano.
Before the founding of the Confraternity, the area was poorly served and when the “FRATRES” Blood Donor groups in the area decided to create a new Misericordia, the idea was immediately accepted by the neighboring towns.
The name Saint Gemma was given to the Misericordia in honor of the mystic who was born precisely in the house in front of the Confraternity’s headquarters.
