Confraternita di Misericordia di Borgo a Mozzano is a voluntary association that is part of the Movimento delle Misericordie, founded in Florence in 1244 by Pietro da Verona, later known as San Pietro Martire. Today, the Misericordie are present in Italy and abroad with over 700 confraternities.
History
Many important dates have marked the life of the association founded in 1897: the opening of RSA-Convento San Francesco in 1983, the donation of the convent by the Ordine dei Frati Minori in 2005 and the inauguration of the new headquarters in 2009. It is an active Misericordia, constantly engaged in numerous services for others, with over 4000 registered members and 237 active volunteers. In addition to its headquarters in the main town, our Misericordia operates locally through the Unità Operativa di San Rocco in Turrite and the Sezione di Fabbriche di Vallico, inaugurated in 2002. Given the characteristics of the area in which we operate, the presence of an older population and the many villages within the municipalities of Borgo a Mozzano, Pescaglia and Fabbriche di Vergemoli, our association meets the needs of the most vulnerable and works with public authorities to guarantee essential personal services.
Activities
- Ordinary social and healthcare transport service for transporting people with disabilities and individuals requiring oncology treatment, dialysis, radiological procedures or medical treatment in general.
- Emergency/urgent social and healthcare transport service provided at two PET118 points: the first is located at the headquarters of Confraternita di Misericordia di Borgo a Mozzano, while the second is staffed on a rotating basis together with the Misericordie della valle del Serchio at the civil protection centre in Piano di Gioviano (Municipality of Borgo a Mozzano)
- Since 1983, RSA-Convento San Francesco has accommodated 47 residents, with a 24-hour nursing service.
- An outpatient clinic where blood samples are taken and medical consultations are provided by 18 specialists, plus 2 additional specialists working at the Valdottavo branch (Municipality of Borgo a Mozzano). The outpatient clinic staff also carried out rapid COVID-19 tests.
- Blood donation service (Gruppo Fratres)
- The Sezione Val Turrite service works with the Borgo a Mozzano headquarters to provide medical consultations and blood sampling in the Municipality of Fabbriche di Vergemoli.
- Servizio Civile (Universale e Regionale), which began on 25/05/2022 and lasted 12 months, involved 12 young people aged between 18 and 29, divided into 2 social-healthcare and social-educational projects.
- A.S. Casa Carnicelli. In collaboration with Consorzio Opere di Misericordia di Firenze and Prefettura di Lucca, we manage a reception centre for 13 refugees.
