Il Sister Beatrice’s journey of service shows how a mission can evolve and adapt when facing real-world challenges. After completing a training program in Italy through “HIC SUM”, sister Beatrice returned to Nigeria at the end of August 2021, eager to use her new skills to support her community.
Early steps and initial challenges
Initially, efforts focused on the agricultural sector. With support from spazio + spadoni, an agricultural project was launched as a small social enterprise, designed to generate the necessary resources for the sisters’ self-sustenance and local area.
However, social innovation requires adaptability. The agricultural project did not achieve the expected results. Instead of being discouraged, the community and spazio + spadoni chose to assess new pathways for growth.
Strategic shift: the sewing atelier
The turning point came through a strategic shift: Spazio Spadoni welcomed the proposal to invest in opening a sewing atelier. This new direction made it possible to leverage the sisters’ craft skills, turning an obstacle into a sustainable opportunity.
Today, the atelier is fully operational: the sisters manufacture and sell clothes, bags, and school uniforms for local schools. This initiative provides vital financial support for the religious community while fostering dignity through work.
Future outlook: promotion and sales
With production established, the project enters a critical stage. The current goal is to build awareness and expand product distribution. Now, all that remains is to advertise and sell, turning every finished garment into a tangible result of solidarity and resilience.
