The Institute is governed by diocesan law. Since its name begins with “Adorer,” it is precisely the spirit of adoration, praise, and service to the poor that characterizes the vocation, life, mission, and apostolate of the Adorer Missionary Sisters of the Poor. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Adorer Missionary Sisters of the Poor were founded by Rev. Mark Mlay and Sr. Mary Jennifer Wandia. Since the order’s founding, the mission and life of the Congregation have continued to grow each year. Currently, the sisters serve orphaned children in the Malowa area, where the Congregation operates St. John Vianney Elementary School and St. John Vianney Secondary School. The total enrollment at both schools is approximately 600 students. Both schools are boarding schools. The sisters also care for the sick in the Malowa area at the Our Lady of Fatima dispensary. They also provide assistance to the poor in the area and teach catechism at the parish church. In their communities, the sisters engage in farming and animal husbandry to provide for themselves. They grow corn, vegetables, and bananas, and raise chickens, goats, cows, rabbits, poultry, and pigs. Currently, they have a single community in Malowa, in the Diocese of Moshi, which serves as both the Motherhouse and the formation center for new members. Over the past ten years, the Congregation has grown from three members to fourteen sisters, five novices, three postulants, and ten candidates, bringing the total number to thirty-two.

Charisma

The charism of the Adorer Missionary Sisters of the Poor is purity of heart, which—when embraced with humility and obedience—enables them to worship God in spirit, truth, and honesty, and thus without ambiguity or deceit in their words and actions.
