The Parables of Mercy – From the book by Sister Palmarita Guida, Mashàl – The Parables: Fragrance of Mercy
Parables are perhaps the most characteristic element of the teachings of Jesus Christ as passed down to us in the Gospels. From the Hebrew Mashàl, the term parable is not a literary genre in the strict sense, but rather refers to a set of literary genres that hark back to the Old Testament: popular proverb, proverb, wisdom saying, simile, oracle. It was a Jewish way of narrating.
