OPERA M Forum (Lichinga, Mozambique)
“Living the Works of Mercy: A Sign of Hope and Charity in the Diocesan Church” is the theme of the OPERA M Forum (Lichinga, Mozambique, 20–21 October 2026).

Living the works of mercy as a sign of hope and charity in the Church and society

Mercy is not merely something to proclaim, but a reality to live, share, and multiply. It is from this conviction that the OPERA M diocesan Forum was born, promoted in the spirit of the reEvolution of the works of mercy, the great journey of spiritual and operational renewal supported by spazio + spadoni.

The Forum, which will be held on 20 and 21 October in Lichinga, Mozambique, focuses on the theme “Living the Works of Mercy: A Sign of Hope and Charity in the Diocesan Church” and is rooted in the words of Jesus: «Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me» (Mt 25:40).

From mercy received to generating mercy

The reEvolution of the works of mercy proposes a profound transformation: moving from mercy understood primarily as relief to a mercy capable of transforming recipients into protagonists of new mercy.

This is the core vision of OPERA M: whoever has been touched by God’s mercy becomes merciful in turn and, through their own deeds, helps spread it.

The fourteen works of mercy, seven spiritual and seven corporal, thus represent an evangelical heritage to bring back to the heart of Christian community life.

A Forum to listen, meet, and act

The Forum aims to strengthen the pastoral care of the works of mercy across the Diocese through training, sharing experiences, and defining strategies capable of responding to people’s spiritual and material needs.

The gathering involves the diocesan Bishop, priests, deacons, men and women religious, representatives of movements and associations, youth, engaged lay people, heads of evangelization and catechesis, and partner institutions.

A Church coming together to acknowledge the wounds of its territory and transform them into concrete opportunities for mercy.

During the Forum, diocesan social and pastoral challenges will be explored, parish initiatives highlighted, and new avenues of collaboration identified.

From the Forum to a lasting commitment

Above all, the Forum is designed to be a launchpad.

Anticipated outcomes include drafting a Diocesan Action Plan for the works of mercy, capable of progressively engaging parishes, religious communities, associations, and parishioners.

Within this framework, OPERA M also proposes the establishment of a Diocesan Office of Works of Mercy to guide, coordinate, and foster the ongoing practice of the fourteen works.

The objective is to build a vibrant network where every community becomes a generator of mercy, welcoming people of other religious traditions and all men and women of goodwill.

A mercy that spreads

The Forum reflects a vision of the Church centered on the living Gospel, turning the works of mercy into a daily path for individuals and communities alike.

The true reEvolution begins when those who receive mercy realize they can bestow it, becoming witnesses and protagonists in their own right.

This is how mercy spreads, multiplies, and reaches new faces, new communities, and new lands.

God’s mercy is at work. Always.
