In Gakora, an area located in southwestern Burundi, an initiative of deep hope and social empowerment continues to take shape: the PARVI project, an acronym for “Resilient Agriculture Project for Widows in the Kizuka area”. Faced with the loss of a spouse, life suffers a painful wound. The void left by an absence cannot be filled by material intervention, as no economic project can replace the presence of a lost loved one. However, in the face of loneliness and daily hardships, the most authentic response is not resignation, but the creation of a concrete future perspective. Giving an opportunity to these women does not mean trying to erase the past; it means courageously investing in their future.
The investment promoted by Spazio Spadoni stems directly from this vision. The primary goal of the PARVI project is not limited to immediate relief, but aims to guarantee a stable income and effective family self-sufficiency for widows in the Kizuka area. Through resilient agriculture, participants acquire skills, tools, and operational resources to cultivate the land sustainably, protecting their families from food and economic vulnerability. In this way, agricultural work becomes an instrument of dignity, autonomy, and personal rebirth.
Yet, the impact of PARVI extends far beyond individual households. The initiative is designed to build a strong, supportive network connecting different groups of widows across Burundi and in other countries. Eradicating social isolation is a vital step: sharing experiences, resources, and sustainable agricultural practices enables these women to rediscover themselves as active protagonists of their own journeys and valuable assets for their broader communities. Mutuality and collaboration transform individual vulnerability into a collective strength capable of reaching beyond local borders.
A fundamental pillar for the success and continuity of the project is the dedicated guidance of Abbé Jean Bosco, who closely monitors the development of activities in Gakora and provides regular updates on achieved milestones. His presence on the ground ensures constant accompaniment that remains deeply attentive to the real needs of the local people and firmly rooted in the community.
