The Ingoro y’Urukundo community was founded by Monsignor Blaise Forissier in Rwanda, in the Catholic Diocese of Butare, in 1992. It is a Congregation of Diocesan Right and currently has 55 sisters divided among five communities in Rwanda and one in Italy in the Diocese of Lucca.
Of these sisters, 10 are completing their studies at secondary schools and university. It is a charismatic Congregation open to everyone, regardless of social status, and welcomes all states of life (married and single). The General House is located in Butare.
Charism
The ideal of the community is to live religious life among the population by putting into practice the fundamental objective of the Ingoro y’Urukundo community (Dwelling of Charity): to praise God, receive his love and radiate it throughout the world. This ideal is embodied in the following motto: Pray and work with simplicity, joy and praise; share all this with others. It is inspired by Romans 5:5: “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us”. It should be noted that the community is subject to diocesan and state law, which justifies the local Bishop’s supervision of any undertaking of the Congregation. The sisters are engaged in many activities, including the health centre, education and teaching in nursery and secondary schools, and training young women in practical activities such as sewing. Furthermore, the Diocese of Butare, in its mission to educate couples about family values and natural family planning, has employed a sister of the Congregation as coordinator of this service.
