The Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus the Educator (acronym SJE) is a women’s religious institute of diocesan right and is under the special care of the diocesan Bishop of Bondo, the principal seat of the SJE. It participates in the Lord’s educational mission entrusted to his Church.
The Congregation arose from the merger of the Daughters of Mary, founded by Bishop Fréderic Blessing, and the Congolese branch of the Ursuline Sisters of Hasselt (Belgium). The decree of merger was published on 11 February 1986.
Charism
The charism of the SJE is to “proclaim the present day of Jesus the Educator” through consecrated life as well as through works of Christian education.
“Following in the footsteps of Jesus”, the SJE devote themselves to the integral education of the human person so that each person may become a child of God. They provide education both in and outside school and are also committed to health education, catechesis and family ministry.
The Spirituality of the SJE is inspired by the maternal love of the Lord, who takes special care of his people in difficulty according to the prophecy of Isaiah. In particular, the sisters contemplate, meditate upon and imitate Jesus’ merciful attitude towards men and women.
