Fraternità di Misericordia di Adrano is a voluntary association that is part of the Movimento delle Misericordie, founded in Florence in 1244 by Pietro da Verona, later known as San Pietro Martire. Today, the Misericordie are present in Italy and abroad with over 700 confraternities.
History
On 21 November in 1987 Fraternità di Misericordia di Adrano was founded at the former Convento dei Frati Cappuccini in piazza Armando Diaz in Adrano (CT), with 21 registered volunteers.
Over the years, the volunteers have worked with great dedication to meet the needs of their local area and of sick people.
On 20 July in 2012 the current headquarters, a property seized from organised crime, was inaugurated. The Fraternità firmly believes in new opportunities. What was once a symbol of illegality is now an instrument serving others. For this reason, among its various initiatives, it participates in the “M.A.P.” project of the “U.E.P.E.” office in Catania. Those who have made a mistake can redeem themselves by serving the Adrano community.
The Fraternità includes the active “G.eMMe” group, a group of young volunteers dedicated to promoting the importance of prevention, active volunteering and legality.
Fraternità di Misericordia di Adrano is also a host organisation for Servizio Civile Universale projects relating to medical assistance and civil protection activities, as well as Servizio Civile Digitale projects.

– Social and healthcare transport by rapid response vehicle and ambulance;
– Emergency and urgent interventions;

– Free loan of medical devices and aids;
– Information activities and dissemination of good practices for the population;
– Training;
– Promotion of active volunteering;
– Promotion of a collaborative network among the various local voluntary organisations;
– Awareness campaigns on the importance of prevention.
