Fraternità di Misericordia di Acireale is a voluntary association that is part of the Movimento delle Misericordie, founded in Florence in 1244 by Pietro da Verona, later known as San Pietro Martire. Today, the Misericordie are present in Italy and abroad with over 700 confraternities.
History
Misericordia di Acireale was founded in 1979 at the Parrocchia Sacratissimo Cuore di Gesù, on the initiative of thirty-eight founding members who believed it was time to devote their free time, personally and as volunteers, to addressing the most urgent needs of their social context, such as transporting patients, providing first aid and donating blood.
Thus began a history of social, human and Christian commitment, always supported by the Suore del Monastero della Visitazione and by the generous work of the Sisters, Brothers and Benefactors. It continues with the enthusiasm of its earliest days and still mobilises the consciences of those wishing to experience the logic of giving and serving life.
