Misericordia di Bompietro is a voluntary association that is part of the Movimento delle Misericordie, founded in Florence in 1244 by Pietro da Verona, later known as San Pietro Martire. Today, the Misericordie are present in Italy and abroad with over 700 confraternities.
History
Misericordia di Bompietro was founded in 2001 to provide social and healthcare services and emergency services, since there was only one 118 ambulance in the area dealing with emergencies throughout the Madonie territory. Then, from 2008, the entire service was reorganised and several stations were established, so the Misericordia began handling secondary services and assistance for the most vulnerable and isolated people.
Since 2005, it has been registered with the regional and national Dipartimento di Protezione Civile and has dealt with medical emergencies, firefighting, snow emergency prevention, etc.
It also indirectly carries out Banco Alimentare activities (collaborating with the Municipality’s Banco Alimentare and the Caritas parrocchiale).
Together with the Medical Director, it carries out periodic cardiac prevention activities, transport for people with disabilities, etc.
It has been present during various regional and national emergencies since 2001.
