The earth has once again shaken violently in Southeast Asia. A devastating earthquake struck the region of East Nusa Tenggara, in Indonesia, causing severe physical destruction, numerous injuries, and thousands of displaced people forced to leave their homes in an instant. In response to this dramatic emergency, Pope Leo XIV expressed his profound sorrow through a telegram of condolence signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and sent to Archbishop Paulus Budi Kleden of Ende.
In the message, the Holy Father offers his «spiritual solidarity and closeness to those suffering the continuing effects of this disaster, particularly for the many displaced and injured». Alongside spiritual comfort, the Pope warmly encouraged ecclesial and civil authorities as they continue to provide vital humanitarian aid. Heartfelt gratitude and prayers were dedicated to all emergency and rescue personnel working tirelessly among the rubble, while commending the deceased to the mercy of God and invoking divine blessings of consolation and strength upon grieving families.
