It was not easy to determine which project would be suitable for the area where Sister Yvette and Sister Caroline live. Following several discussions with the Mother General and a local technician, the Congregation chose to pursue an agricultural project to improve nutrition while supporting the local population. In agreement with the Institute, it was decided that once the first project had proven successful, a second would be launched.

Sister Yvette and Sister Caroline arrived in Italy in October 2022. The sisters, from the Congolese Congregation of Jesus the Educator, also have a community in Italy, in the province of Genoa, which made their integration into the Misericordia easier and reduced the language barrier.

The young volunteers of Misericordia di Ponente Soccorso welcomed the sisters with great enthusiasm. They showed them care and attention, the result of careful and thorough preparation for the HIC SUM project. Sister Yvette and Sister Caroline took part in the association’s life, enriching it with their testimony of life and faith. They attended various courses, including sewing, cooking lessons, first aid and DIY. In November of the same year, they took part in a month-long training course on the Works of Mercy organised and promoted by spazio + spadoni in Loppiano.

The sisters return to Buta, in the Diocese of Bondo, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on 2 May 2023
