The collaboration with the Suore del Sacro Cuore di Gesù began long before Sister Evarest’s arrival. To respond to the sisters’ pressing need, spazio + spadoni supported the installation of a library for the women’s centre run by the sisters in Thangachimadam – Rameshwaram. Since her arrival in Italy, Sister Evarest has undertaken intensive training in first aid, the charism of volunteering, the Works of Mercy, information technology and a practical crochet course. All these activities were intended to pass on the lessons learned to the girls at the sisters’ centre and contribute to their empowerment.

Sister Evarest arrived in Italy in April 2022 to gain experience of the HIC SUM project at the Misericordia di Camaiore e Lido, which had begun collaborating with the same Congregation several months earlier, helping establish a community of the Suore del Sacro Cuore di Gesù. Sister Evarest remained in Italy for three months, where she learned basic information technology and attended a crochet course; these skills would be useful for her work at the girls’ promotion centre that she would oversee in India, on the island of Rameshwaram in the federal state of Tamil Nadu, upon her return in July of the same year.
